Abstract
User education is defined as a whole effort to acknowledge the necessary knowledge and skills to users by professional librarians so that users could utilize from library resources and services. The high percentage of library usage by all university members, when the universities? libraries are considered is the sign of well performance of library?s aims.This study aims to answer the particular question of ?how much do the user education programs which are performed in the university libraries succeed the aims of user education. The increase of information resources through the electronic means, the possibility of remote access to the library resources, the entrance of Web 2.0 technologies even to the university libraries pushed the necessity to order the electronic user education programs by benefiting from these possibilities.The survey method was used in this study and data were gathered through literature search and questionnaires. In this research, in order to collect data, a questionnaire was applied to librarians who work in state university libraries in Ankara (Ankara University, Gazi University, Hacettepe University and Middle East Technical University). The questionnaire is composed of two parts and consist of 54 questions and given to 56 librarians.As the concluding remark of this survey, it can be seen that the librarians complain about the indifference and small number of participants to the user education programs. In order to overcome this, the user education should be structured along with the electronic means. In addition, there is a problem in user education due to inadequate personnel number. Another consequence is that the librarians need to be instructed on the usage of Web 2.0 technologies.
