Abstract

The scope of the study was to investigate the presence of some synthetic pyrethroid ( ? -cyhalothrin, cypermethrin, deltamethrin, permethrin and fenvalerate) insecticide residues in samples of raw milk collected from Adana province. In this study, presence of ? -cyhalothrin, cypermethrin, deltamethrin, permethrin and fenvalerate in 100 samples of raw milk collected between March 2006 and February 2007 in four phases were investigated. Samples were collected in accordance with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development?s `Precautions to be taken when Tracing Specific Substances and Their Residues in Live Animals and Products of Animal Origin Guidelines? and were stored in proper laboratory conditions until their analysis. The presence of synthetic pyrethroid in raw milk was investigated using GC-MS-MS equipment. The extraction and the method were first adjusted to suit the laboratory conditions before proceeding with the investigation. At the end of the study, the presence of ? -cyhalothrin, cypermethrin, deltamethrin, permethrin and fenvalerate.in the samples of raw milk analysed were detected to change with seasons. ? -cyhalothrin 17, cypermethrin 11, Deltamethrin 14, permethrin 11 and fenvalerate 3 were positively identified to vary with the type of pesticide. In addition, when tolerance limits for these substances were taken into consideration 9 samples of ? -cyhalothrin, 5 samples of cypermethrin, 13 samples of deltamethrin, 6 samples of permethrin and 1 sample of fenvalerate were found to be above the limits. The rate or number of exceeded samples to MRL can be given by a sentence. Parallel to these results, the mean values of the insecticides were found to be 132,11 ppb, 100,27 ppb, 92,21 ppb, 262,72 ppb and 39,66 ppb for ? -cyhalothrin, cypermethrin, deltamethrin, permethrin and fenvalerate respectively. The results obtained show pollution of raw milk with some synthetic pyrethroids to be beyond the tolerance limits. When the need to establish the tolerance limits for these substances within the residue monitoring plan as stipulated in the 2005 Notice (Notice, The Turkish Food Codex, Maximum residue Limits of Veterinary Medication in Food of Animal Origin)on the related substances, there is need to establish laboratory infracture for continuous monitoring of these residues.Key words: Milk, Synthetic Pyrethroid, Adana, Çukurova, Residue
